The internationally renowned Pavel Haas Quartet opened the new season on Sunday 20 August unconventionally at La Skala! The concert did not, however, take place at the famous opera house in Milan, but the La Skala Amphitheatre, a summer culture complex in the picturesque village of Malá Skála near Turnov, north–east of Prague.
In September, music lovers will have the opportunity to see and hear the PHQ, whom BBC Music Magazine ranked among the 10 greatest string quartets of all time, on several occasions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. On 9 September, they will appear at the Rudolfinum within the Dvořák Prague festival along with the cellist Anastasia Kobekina. On 16 September the ensemble will perform at the Saint Wenceslas festival, and on 27 September they will play at the Bratislava Music Festival. In October, they will give concerts at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and in November the PHQ will make an extensive tour of the UK, the Netherlands and Germany.
In addition to ample concert activities, the Pavel Haas Quartet have in store for their fans a new album, containing the complete Antonín Dvořák piano trios. Recorded by the violinist Veronika Jarůšková and the cellist Peter Jarůšek, and featuring as a guest the Israeli pianist Boris Giltburg, a long-time friend and colleague, it will be released by Supraphon on 22 September, on both CD and in digital formats.
